Since the early 90s, SODETEL (SOCIETE DE DEVELOPPEMENT DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS du Liban s.a.l.) strengthens the Lebanese telecommunications market through its developed data transmissions network. Sodetel was created in 1968 to manage the submarine cable between Beirut & Marseilles and to do all telecommunications work that the shareholders entrust her with. The Lebanese Ministry of Telecommunications holds %50 of SODETEL, France Telecom / FCR holds %50. SODETEL started expanding its services in 1991 with the introduction of LIBANPAC , the sole national packet switching data network legally authorized.

Likewise, in 1996 SODETEL set up its INTERNET network in collaboration with France Telecom - FCR, therefore becoming a major ISP in the country. In 1999, SODETEL started providing permanent connections to big corporations such as banks and multinational companies, which require full-proof round-the-clock Internet connection.
